Capstone Initiative

Office of Undergraduate Studies

Capstone courses integrate coursework, knowledge, skills, and experiential learning for the purpose of enabling students to demonstrate their synthesis of knowledge in real-world applications.  This is accomplished through providing students with opportunities to apply their accumulated learning to a meaningful project, assess outcomes, and position themselves for emerging opportunities in their fields.

BioWorld

Department of Bioengineering

With the goal of improving health care, students are assembled into teams and work directly with doctors and nurses who have overseas experience in humanitarian health care practices. During this two-semester experience, students develop business plans for low-income areas around the world and have opportunities for international travel.

Sustainable Campus Initiative Fund Program (SCIF)

Sustainability Resource Center

SCIF oversees competitive grants for student projects focused on sustainability education and energy efficiency at the University of Utah. SCIF’s mission is to provide funding for real-world projects that improve the University of Utah’s environmental quality and make the campus more sustainable.
